What your website says about your business

Your website says a lot about your business, which can either be a blessing or a curse; the decision is up to you. It’s 2018 yet many businesses still don’t understand the importance their website has on their overall business plan. A website isn’t just a place that web users can find information about you; it needs to do a lot more than that.

Here’s what your website could be saying about your business:

You don’t have a website

In this day and age it’s incredible to see businesses without a website yet plenty remain offline. As a business owner you really are missing the bigger picture if you don’t think a website will be of benefit to your business. Studies show that 70-80% of people will research a company on the web before making a purchase decision, usually by visiting its website. Unlike years ago, websites don’t have to be the big investment they once where – you can get online relatively cheap should you wish to.

What it says about your business:

You are way behind the times

You don’t care about your customer experience

You’re not planning to be in business for the long haul

You lack business experience

You may not be trustworthy

Your website isn’t mobile friendly

Not having a mobile friendly website in 2018 is practically the same as not having a website at all. By mobile friendly we are referring to a website that functions correctly across different devices. Why is this important? Because a non-mobile friendly website is irritating and provides a poor user experience which isn’t a good business strategy seeing as mobile traffic to websites is now far greater than from a desktop machine.

What it says about your business:

You don’t understand the importance of mobile friendly websites

You don’t care what devices your audience uses

You don’t meet the needs of your audience

Your business is behind the times

Your website is slow

Having a website that loads in a reasonable time frame is just good practise. If web users have to wait even a second too long there’s a good chance that they’ll click off and go elsewhere. Not sure how fast your website loading speed is? You can take a Google speed test here.

What it says about your business:

Your website doesn’t deliver the basics

You don’t value your visitor’s time

You haven’t invested properly in your website

You don’t really care about your web presence

Your website is out-dated

Don’t fall in to the trap of having a website built and then not giving it a second thought for years to come. The online world moves fast and if you fall behind you’re going to be hugely missing out.

What it says about your business:

Your business isn’t modern

You don’t care about your website strategy

You don’t want to give your customers the best experience possible

Your business isn’t advancing

Your website is poorly designed

Design is at the heart of a website and if this is done poorly it will reflect badly on your business as a whole. Your websites design gives you the opportunity to really showcase your business and the services you offer. Good design can evoke emotion and ultimately lead to more sales. Poor design will more often than not do the opposite.

What it says about your business:

You don’t care how your business is perceived

You do the bare minimum

You don’t invest in your business

You don’t care about your customers online experience

Your website is confusing

A professional business website should clearly state what you do, your values or mission and how customers can proceed to receive what you offer. If your website doesn’t do this then you may be doing more harm than good.

What it says about your business:

You don’t understand your businesses vision

It may be difficult to work with you

You’re not better than your competition

You don’t value your customer’s online experience

Your website isn’t working correctly

Having a website that is down or that is riddled with 404 errors is a big no. If potential customers encounter this, the chance that they will wait around for you to fix this is slim. They will simply go somewhere else – typically to your competitor who is willing to put the effort in with their website.

What it says about your business:

You don’t value your customer’s online experience

You don’t care about your reputation

Modernising your business is not important to you

You aren’t organised

You may offer a poor service
